Analysis: Both good realities and bad realities are presented in the news. The news keeps it real. Short, simple, and real. The segments for each news story is short, which Is why they are able to fit so many stories into one broadcast. Nothing is sugarcoated, because the reality of these situations needs to be made known by the public. For the one with the man being charged with beastiality, they said he was charged with having “sexual intercourse with his dog”. Horrible horrible horrible, no words can even describe how sick it makes me to write that. but the news needs to say this to show the gravity and realness of what is going on in our city.

In terms of our readings, the news is a main example of mass communication (spreading information to a wide variety and large amount of people all at one time through media/technology), which was the main point of this week's readings. We as a society also become accustomed to media effects. These are effects we get based on the media we receive (ie when the weather-channel says it's going to be cold and rainy we will dress accordingly). The cultivation theory also comes into play. This proves how the media has a huge impact on our lives. and that "heavy" news watchers (those who keep up with the news) seem to be more fearful of things and think of worst case scenarios. I can definitely see this, because even just watching this 30 minute segment, a lot of it made me worried. I drive by the area where the 2 young women were hit by a car every time I drive to school, which is scary. I also went to SMMS (a while ago, but still it was my middle school) and still live nearby, so it shocked me to hear the first story. While the news can get in your head, I think watching the news is very important. I will admit I do not watch the news much, but after watching this segment, I will watch it more often. It is important to know what is going on In your city, whether that be good news or bad news. Either way it is important to stay up to date on everything. But to take the bad with the good. A lot of times the good news can be overlooked when there is so much bad going on. It was sweet to hear about the firefighter team who rescued the cat underneath the car and got the cat out okay.

  1. I like how you mentioned that the news will cover both the good and bad realities that our communities face. It is important that everyone stay updated on the news going on around them, but at the same time to make sure you are also not living a scared life because over over-consuming content from the news. You did an amazing job with your analysis.

  2. It's good to see you mention how the news will cover both good and bad stories. Most people think of the negative immediately when they think of the news. However, in all actuality, both good and bad things happen in our day-to-day life, and it's important for the news to cover all of these things. Your analysis is very thorough and I liked how you connected it back to this week's reading!

  3. The news shows how mass communication impacts viewer's perceptions through media effects and cultivation theory. While it can make viewers anxious, I know staying informed is important, even with difficult stories. Balancing the bad with positive news reminds me of how media shapes not only their behavior but also their emotions and worldview.
